Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I want to warmly welcome you to the 2024-25 school year. As I am embarking on my second year here at Van Deene Elementary, my commitment has not faltered and I am extremely invested in our school and community. This journey with all of you (students, parents, teachers, staff members, community) has demonstrated to me that our school is filled  with resilient, amazing, and talented people. I am passionate about advocating for the arts and bringing partnerships to our school. Hence, as principal of Van Deene, I am excited to initiate our Art, Media, Music, and Entertainment Magnet program beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Knowing that Van Deene has a tradition of excellence in enhancing students' education by integrating the arts, I look forward to providing your children with high-quality and well-rounded education as we approach new partnerships.

In this new partnership in growth and learning, I hope to support you by fostering an environment that embraces diversity and celebrates all cultures. This school  year we will continue to implement strategies to increase students’ motivation, grow their academic self-efficacy, and build their confidence in taking responsibility for their own learning. We will continue to enhance and set our priorities in:

• Safety, Security & Attendance 
• Social Emotional Learning-focus on KINDNESS
• Restorative Practices 
• Intervention for students in need of support in ELA and/or Math 
• Enrichment: art, music, dance, and theater

Important Reminders and Schedules:

• As of July 1st, a new district policy was published, entitled, Prohibition of External Food and Beverage Deliveries to Schools. In summary, “the delivery of fast food, or any beverage to all campuses is strictly prohibited.” This policy applies to all students and staff members.

• We will continue to follow the guidance of all the health departments including returning to Breakfast in the Classroom.
